President’s Report on the 2018 Canadian National Championships

The Canadian National Championships were held in Waterloo, Ontario, from May 23nd to May 27th. Gymnastics Canada along with the Ontario Gymnastics Federation hosted the event. The Waterloo Memorial Recreational Centre was used to facilitate the competitions. Live streaming was available on the web for those parents and other spectators who weren’t able to attend. Spectator seating was not a problem as the Memorial Recreational Centre, being a multiplex facility, had lots of seating.

Athlete accommodations were in residence, a 20 to 35 minute walk away from the venue, which meant each morning our gymnasts got up early, had their breakfast and started their walk for the day’s proceedings.

In total, 21 Manitoba gymnasts participated. Team Manitoba came home with 7 well-deserved medals.

Our High-Performance athletes had a very successful meet with Isabela Onyshko placing 2nd AA and on balance beam as well as 3rd on floor.  Quinn Skrupa came in 3rd all around and 2nd on bars. Davey Boschmann tied for a bronze medal on floor at his first Canadians as a Junior.

Congratulations to all the gymnasts and coaches for their successes at Canadians. As Chef de Mission/Manager, I was pleased with the results, proud of our gymnasts’ professional manner!
