President’s Report on Canadian National Championships 2017
The Canadian National Championships were held in Montreal, Quebec from May 24rd to May 28th. Gymnastics Canada along with the Quebec Gymnastics Federation hosted the event. The Claude-Robillard Centre was used to facilitate the competitions. Live streaming was available on the web for those parents and other spectators who weren’t able to attend. Spectator seating was not a problem as the Claude-Robillard Centre, being a multiplex facility had two levels of seating.
Athlete accommodations were on the outskirts of the Montreal city center at the Hotel Universel, across from the Olympic Stadium. It was a 20 to 30 minute shuttle ride to the venue, which meant each morning our team, got up early, had their breakfast and caught the bus for the day’s proceedings.
In total, 21 Manitoba gymnasts participated. Team Manitoba came home with 4 well-deserved medals. (All scores are posted on the MGA website)
From the Brandon Eagles Gym Club in the HP Categories:
Isabela Onyshko won Gold on beam; 4th All Around and 4th on Uneven Bars in the HP Senior Category.
Quinn Skrupa won Silver on Beam, a Bronze Medal All Around and came in 4th on Floor and 7th on Vault in the Junior Category.
In the Men’s National Open Category, Davey Boschmann, from Winnipeg Gymnastics Centre, won a Bronze Medal in High Bar and came in 7th on Vault and 11th All Around.
Congratulations to all the gymnasts and coaches for their successes at Canadians. As Chef de Mission/Manager, I was pleased with the results, proud of our gymnasts’ professional manner, and thankful that there were no injuries.
