President’s Report on Canadian National Championships 2016

The Canadian National Championships were held in Edmonton, Alberta from May 31th to June 4st. Canada Gymnastics along with Edmonton’s Capital City Gym Club hosted the event. The Butterdome at the University of Alberta was used to facilitate both Gymnastics and T and T competitions. Spectator seating was at its very best, for viewing all gymnasts for both events.
Gymnast’s accommodations were at the university residences, a 5 minute walk from the Butterdome, which provided great exercise and we were fortunate to have sunshine every day! In total, 18 Manitoba gymnasts participated. Team Manitoba came home with 8 well-deserved medals. (All scores are posted on the MGA website)
Isabela Onyshko won Gold All Around in the HP Senior Category, also capturing a Gold Medal on Beam and Uneven Bars, and a Bronze Medal on Floor.
Quinn Skrupa won Gold All Around in HP Novice Category, Gold on Uneven Bars and Bronze on Beam.
This was the first time in over 35 years that 2 Manitoba gymnasts took the honours in winning 1st all around in High Performance categories.
In Trampoline, Tyler Champagne won a Silver Medal in the L6 17 and under category.
Congratulations to all the gymnasts and coaches for their successes at Canadians. As Chef de Mission/Manager, I was pleased with the results, happy about the professional manner in which Team Manitoba presented itself, and thankful that there were no injuries.
