On September 23, 2016 at McPhillips Street Station Casino, the Canadian Sport Centre Manitoba hosted a Victory Lap Celebration Dinner for Manitoba athletes and their coaches who attended the Rio Olympic Games.
Dan Lett, a columnist with the Winnipeg Free Press was the MC. Councillor Jeff Browaty brought greetings on behalf of the Mayor’s office. The Mayor from Brandon, Rick Chrest was invited by Sport Manitoba to bring greetings from all rural Manitoba cities/towns. After honouring the Rio provincial athletes, he turned to Isabela Onyshko and spoke highly of her and her 3 coaches. He jokingly qualified he needed to support his home town Olympian more so, as not to get bad press from Minnedosa where Bela grew up and from Brandon where she now trains at the Eagle’s Gym Club.
The evening featured dinner and a short question/answer period for the Rio athletes in attendance. Dan Lett recognized all athletes and coaches present. However several Olympians weren’t able to make it, so a short video was recorded and played over the dinner hour. Each athlete provided a brief synopsis of their Rio experience and thanked Sport Manitoba, their associations, coaches and families.
