On Sunday, April 9th, I attended the Manitoba Open Championships held at Springers Gymnastics. This two-day event hosted JO Level 8, National JO Levels 9 and 10 and Invitational: Regional, JO Levels 5-7 gymnasts. The competition accommodated 14 – JO 8 gymnasts, 22 Pre-Provincial gymnasts, 40 Advanced gymnasts, and 40 National gymnasts.
The following 12 clubs were in attendance on Sunday: Crescentwood, Fantastic, GymKids, Brandon Eagles, Keystone Kips, Panthers, Red Lake Mat Cats, Selkirk Selects, Silhouettes, Steinbach Flippers, Winnipeg Gymnastics and the host club, Springers.
The Women’s Program also named their teams for the Western Canadian Championships to be held on April 26-29, 2017, in Brandon and the Canadian National Championships to be held on May 24-28, 2017, in Montreal. All gymnasts who competed have their names and scores posted on the MGA website.
I was informed that the Saturday event ran smoothly as did Sunday’s. The viewing gallery was filled to capacity for all sessions held on both days. All gymnasts, judges, coaches, and volunteers did their part in making certain that this meet would be a resounding success.
On behalf of the MGA, I wish to thank Springers Gymnastics for hosting the Manitoba Open along with the Springers Super Meet. Finally, thank you to Kendra Tower and Rachelle Valel for the invitation and for giving me the honour of handing out awards.
