The 2018 Western Canadian Championships were held in Spruce Grove, Alberta at the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre, from April 26th to April 28th, 2018. Board member Kendra Tower was the Team Manager.
As Chef de Mission, I was very impressed by our gymnasts’ professionalism during our flights and throughout the meet. They were disciplined, motivated and focused. Our three days in Spruce Grove were filled with training sessions, daily competitions, and lots of travel between the hotel and the venue. Team Manitoba along with other provinces was housed in Edmonton at the Holiday Inn, which meant multiple one-way 21 kilometer drives to Spruce Grove. Along with general daily scheduled bus transportation, Kendra and I also transported our gymnasts to and from the hotel, to coincide with their competition times each day.
Congratulations to all the gymnasts and coaches for their hard work and resounding success. All scores have been posted on our website.
I take this opportunity to personally thank Ms. Tower for her role as manager for Western Canadians. With the time synchronized help of all our coaches, Kendra set up an efficient travel schedule and maintained a steady hand with our 40 gymnasts as we traveled between the hotel and the competition site with 2 coordinated vans.
