President’s Report on Western Canadian Championships
The 2017 Western Canadian Championships were held in Brandon, Manitoba, at the Keystone Centre, from April 26th to 29th. Board members Kendra Tower and Billy Cormier attended as Team Managers.
Our four days in Brandon went very smoothly and everyone enjoyed the very short walk to the venue as the hotel was attached to the Keystone Centre. One of the highlights was on the second day when Kendra gathered the whole team of gymnasts and coaches for a luncheon at Canad Inns. For the team, it was a pleasant break and a good bonding experience between the training sessions and the competition that would begin later in the afternoon.
As Chef de Mission, I was very impressed by the gymnasts’ professionalism during our bus travels to and from Brandon and throughout the meet. They were disciplined, motivated and focused.
I take this opportunity to congratulate all gymnasts and coaches for their hard work and resounding success. Team Manitoba came home with a total of 23 medals. All scores have been posted on our website. I also want to thank all the judges who participated in this event, devoting personal time to attend and judge our Western Canadian athletes.
I also extend my personal thanks to Kendra Tower and Billy Cormier as managers for Western Canadians. Providing a safe and healthy environment for our gymnasts is a most valuable contribution and we are grateful for their dedication.
Finally, I wish to thank Kathy Stoesz, Regan Bint, Lorie Henderson, the Organizing Committee and the many volunteers for a very positive and successful Western Canadian Championships.
