On Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday April 23rd, I attended the Thompson Tumblers Gymnastics Club Women’s Edmond Financial Regional Stream Provincial Championships. The event hosted Intermediate, Advanced and Pre-Provincial regional levels. The competition accommodated 150 gymnasts with the following clubs in attendance: Brandon Eagles, Beausejour Elites, Flin Flon Flinty’s, Grand Plains Gymcats, Neepawa Novas, Silhouettes, Southport Sapphires, Springers, Steinbach Flippers, Swan Valley Cheetahs, Turtle Mountain Twisters, Winnipeg Gymnastics Centre, and the host club, Thompson Tumblers.
When the competition ended on Sunday, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies were handed out. Not to be denied the next 3 athlete placements were also recognized for their efforts, 4th, 5th and 6th place ribbons were also handed out.
The Regional Stream Coaches met that Saturday evening to discuss several issues, but also to decide on where next year’s Provincial Regional Stream Championships would be held. Through a membership vote, Swan River won the honour to be the host for 2018.
Everyone involved in set-up and operation of this 2-day event made certain that it would be the success it was. All the gymnasts who competed have their names and scores posted on the MGA website.
On behalf of the MGA, I wish to thank the Thompson Tumblers Gym Club for hosting the Edmond Financial Regional Stream Provincial Championships.
Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers, score keepers, coaches and judges for a job well done. Finally, thank you to Dawn Lundrigan and her crew for the invitation and the honour of handing out awards. I look forward to next year’s Swan River meet.
