On Friday, April 15th to Sunday April 17th, I attended the Winnipeg Gymnastics Centre Women’s Manitoba Regional Provincial Championships. The event hosted Intermediate, Advanced and Pre-Provincial regional levels. The competition accommodated 355 gymnasts and the following clubs were in attendance: Brandon Eagles, Crescentwood, Beausejour Elites, Fantastic, Gimli Flyers, Grand Plains Gymcats, Gymkyds, Keystone Kips, Morden Magics, Neepawa Novas, Panthers, Selkirk Select, Silhouettes, Southport Sapphires, Springers, St Andrews, Steinbach Flippers, Swan Valley Cheetahs, Teulon Gymnastics, Thompson Tumblers, Turtle Mountain Twisters, and the host club, Winnipeg Gymnastics Centre, for a total of 22 clubs.
When the competition ended on Sunday evening, a total of 41, 1st, 2nd and 3rd place trophies were handed out. Not to be denied the next 3 athlete placements were also recognized for their efforts, 29, 4th, 22, 5th and 17, 6th place trophies were also handed out.
The Women’s Technical Committee members met that Saturday evening to discuss several issues, but also to decide on where next year’s Provincial Regional Stream Championships would be held. Through a membership vote, Thompson Manitoba won the honour to be the host for 2017.
Everyone involved in set-up and operation of this 3-day event made certain that it would be the success it was. All the gymnasts who competed have their names and scores posted on the MGA website.
On behalf of the MGA, I wish to thank the Winnipeg Gymnastics Centre for hosting the Edmond Financial Regional Stream Provincial Championships.
Thank you to all the dedicated volunteers, score keepers, coaches and judges for a job well done. Finally, thank you to Celia Champion and her crew for the invitation and the honour of handing out awards. I look forward to next year’s Thompson meet.
