After receiving an invitation to visit the Dakota Gym Club, I made arrangements on November 23rd, 2018, to attend their evening class. This was my first time at the new club, so I had the pleasure of meeting with Head Coach Adik Isakov, his wife, a certified L3 coach, as well as coach Murat Kanakaev. I know Adik and Murat as both were coaches in Manitoba prior to Adik opening his own facility.

I was interested in learning more about Dakota’s new programing and how it was being offered.

Presently, the club has been in operation for 2 months and has 50 members, three coaches and a few volunteers. A total of 8 gymnasts are training in acrobatics and the rest are recreational and advanced girls and boys gymnastics classes. Classes are held on Fridays with beginners and the recreational group practising for 2 hours per week.

The club plans to start a MAG and WAG acrobatics competitive program, as it is becoming very popular in Canada and throughout many provincial gymnastics’ associations. Learning about the club’s programing enlightened me as to the ever-changing landscape of gymnastics.

In closing, I wish to thank Adik Isakov and his staff, for giving me a tour of their facility as well as the young gymnasts!
